Imagine LA

ILA

Imagine LA works to end family homelessness by matching volunteer teams of mentors and tutors with homeless families.

Solving the issue of family homelessness does not stop at housing, but requires individuals in this community to come around each family and support them on their journey back to self-sufficiency.

Our concept:

Create a production studio/set where mentors and mentees within the program can discuss their heartbreaking, yet inspiring, stories. By having our director ask questions while the families and mentors are focused on drawing, we aimed to hear very authentic responses.

Their inspiring experiences will come alive on camera, on the canvas, and to viewers.

We will import the art, and bring their hand-drawn characters to life, allowing live action video and animation to intertwine.

With this story and style, we hoped to inspire viewers:

  • With no guilt
  • Remove the discomfort on the part of the homeless families in typical ‘situational’ or ‘talking head’ interviews
  • Show successes and inspire
Create a safe place for the families
  • Grow offline awareness with hand drawn art/paintings, created by members, that can be used in fundraisers and the foundations office
The video resulted in Imagine LA raising over $240,000 in a single night at the fundraiser – more than ever before.
