Microduino Video: Fundraising via video production and motion graphics

Bin Feng

The word “fun” may not always go hand in hand with “corporate video production, and motion graphics” but working with Microduino was like being a child again, even if for just a few days!

Microduino is a company who created a series of microchip modules that dramatically decrease the size, time and cost of coding and prototyping. To translate that into normal lingo – they’ve created microchips that can be used to bring any product with electronic components to life. Imagine the ability to build a remote control, music box or a mini quad-copter! The possibilities are simply endless.

Microduino is in the process of debuting their second generation modules, the mCookie. These compact modules contain wi-fi, bluetooth, amplifiers, lights and dozens of other features – all in a user-friendly platform which allows you to code using their new “STACK” feature. What used to take hours of coding can now be done in a simple drag and drop setting that even non-techies can understand. The variety of things that you can build with these modules and the simplicity in which you can do it is astounding.

In order to fulfill their orders and fully launch their next generation mCookie modules, Microduino decided to have a crowdsourcing event on Kickstarter. We were thrilled when Microduino tasked Rip Media Group to create a live action video production with motion graphic overlays for their campaign. We knew it was going to be easy to make these products look fun – because they inherently are – but we also had to tell their unique story. We opted to go for a hand-off sequence where every product used is transferring the mCookie module from one to the next.

The final video was chosen as a Kickstarter Staff Pick and resulted in raising $38k of their requested $40k in just 24 hours! We couldn’t be happier for the wonderful folks over at Microduino and are so proud to have been a part of this momentous occasion! Check out their Kickstarter campaign….  (UPDATE: The campaign is now over $107,000 raised, and he still has 16 days to go!)

We hope you have as much fun watching the video as we had producing it!
