If you’ve been following along, you’ll know we’re deep in the middle of “Story.” It’s arguably one of the biggest secrets to an amazing video production. In our last blog we discussed the 5 types of stories.

Now, these types of stories may (and often) mix into each other. For example, The Lord Of The Rings could be classified as a hero’s journey, buddy film, and underdog story all at the same time. But the important thing is to understand what your story is and why it changes their lives for the better.

We’ve all seen examples of good stories. But what is yours?

Each story type must have particular emotional elements that evoke passion, motivate, and inspire an action. We will discuss that now in:

Step Five: S.T.U.F.F.

Your story must invoke a powerful emotion that compels your viewer to learn more. Do this and you are on your way to solving a problem and opening a purchase order.

So how do you go about that? We mean, what are the keys for getting someone to decide to buy your products? Fortunately we’ve got five killer ways for you to grab their hearts – and we call it The S.T.U.F.F.

Sexy

Not overtly but sexy in a cool sense. What makes your product sizzle? What makes it pop? Why is there a “gotta have it”? Remember the Rubik’s Cube? How about Air Jordan’s? You just know they’d get you jumping higher.

Touching

Is there something about your product or service that brings an emotional tie to past of future desires? Nostalgia? Hope? Empathy? Touching a chord that lies deep within your audience is a sure way to create a bond.

Unique/Unexpected

Creating a whiteboard animation or a motion graphic video is certainly unique – but what is the unexpected twist you can demonstrate? The needed story element?

Funny

How can we demonstrate you have a sense of humor, that you are accessible to buyers? Getting people to laugh is a very easy way to get your videos shared and lighten a serious decision. Remember the “I’m a Mac” Apple vs PC ads with actors?

Fear

What are the possible consequences of your buyers not taking action? How dangerous is inaction? Will they fall behind? Preying on fears is smart business advertising.
