Volkswagen: “The Force”
Released during the Superbowl in 2011, this advertisement gained the adoration of viewers everywhere. Using Charlie Chaplin’s concept of action and body language as universal communication, and adding George Lucas’ most famous character from Star Wars, Darth Vader, into the mix and you’ve got yourself a wonderful recipe… but, make that Darth Vader a pint-sized, cute little kid? And you’ve just cooked up a viral video that many people remember better than the Superbowl itself.
At Rip Media Group, we want our animation and motion graphic videos to be top notch and find the widest appeal. What Volkswagen accomplished with this advertisement is impressive, and we tip our hats to them. Without discussing the product itself, VW did two great things:
- Brought humor to the ad
- Placed a memorable product feature (remote start) in our heads through a story…an adorable little Darth Vader.
Using an ever-popular film for a promotional video idea is rarely a bad idea, as the audience is enormous, as long as you have the licensing rights.
