I had the pleasure of meeting future movie-makers at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. Their professor, Eric Sherman, and I agreed to have me ‘guest teach’ for a day, and give our film directors a bit of insight into what a marketing agency that focuses on marketing videos, web videos, and commercial video, actually do for our clients.
I was humbled by the experience. The majority of the students in Sherman’s class are going to go on to make the movies that you and I will be watching for the next 20 years.
Yeah, they’re that good – because the school is that good. Known as simply ‘The Arts Center’ this is the place that has the best hiring rate of any film school in America…and have the alumni to prove it, including Michael Bay (Transformers), David Fincher (The Social Network), Zach Snyder (300), and many others. In fact, Business Week named the Art Center in its list of the 60 best design schools in the world. That’s some high praise. From what I saw, well deserved.
I lectured on marketing campaigns that are successful based on creative social media campaigns, and they were the first the see the rules of creating successful intro videos. The input and feedback was on point, and appreciated.
Professor Sherman, who has a BA from Yale, is a noted producer, speaker, and teacher. His awards and credentials are as long as my arm. He also was a genuinely nice guy. Thank you to Professor Sherman, and the students at The Art Center. Your futures are bright.
