In marketing, the consumer is omnipotent. Before an effective strategy can be developed, you need to know where, when and how your target audience consumes their media ⎯ and right now, they’re watching online video.

Before you set out to create a corporate video, look to the demographics. Compared to 2010, 43% more Americans viewed online video last year, and much of that increase reflects web use by previously untapped markets. Older generations are beginning to catch up to tech enthusiasts, broadening and diversifying the pool of viewers and improving your chance of reaching target audiences. To tap into that market, there are three key statistics to consider when you set out to produce your own corporate video content.

Three key statistics when producing your own corporate video

Daily Video Views

On any given day last year, over 100 million Americans watched videos online. That’s 100 million chances every day to reach potential consumers, customers and subscribers with content, advertisements and marketing messages within your corporate video. With viral videos ⎯ loosely defined as a video racking up hundreds of millions of views ⎯ those opportunities multiply exponentially.

Video Length

The average length of online videos rose by a little less than a minute last year, from 5.0 to 5.8 minutes. While much of this can be attributed to increased interest in (and access to) online streaming of television and movies, it also reflects interest and engagement with long-form video content. Take advantage of this improvement in attention span, and don’t be afraid to include more information or a more in-depth sales pitch in your corporate video marketing strategy.

Video/Ad Ratio

Advertisements in videos, particularly those that use whiteboard animation, should be considered as an important venue for marketing. But when it comes to volume, tread carefully: businesses should consider exposure versus saturation. More ads can quickly equal white noise in an online venue.
