A question from your friendly neighborhood video production company pro: What do fresh fish, family, and business videos have in common?
The longer they linger, the less appealing they become.
INTRODUCING VIDEO MARKETING: THE STORY
I know you love when your wife’s Aunt LaVerne comes to visit, but let’s be honest: you can only take so many stories about her rotator cuff procedures before you find yourself slowly backing away from the table in hopes that you can slip away unnoticed.
What was that? Turkey needs basting?? I’m on it!
At this point, you know all the names of her plethora of prescriptions by heart, and if you have to sit through her listing them out one more time, you might just find yourself tapping into that 18-year old scotch you’ve been saving for a special occasion.
When LaVerne spots you in the kitchen, where you’ve tried to take solace, you can tell she’s got her sights on you.
She informs you that she’s been wanting to surprise you with some good news: she’s decided to stay another week.
Where’s that scotch?!
When family comes to visit you, it’s a joyous occasion. But truth be told, it’s best when their visit is short and sweet. Video marketing is no different!
SO, HOW LONG SHOULD A VIDEO BE?
Take as long as it needs to get your very best message and call to action across, then end the visit on a high note! That’s how long the video should be.
Our experience has shown us that different companies can get away with varying lengths of videos, but the get-in-get-out rule always holds. If you bore your customers, they’re lost.
If it’s extraneous, let’s make some cuts and shorten that trip. If they want more, you can supply that in the next learning phase, after they trust you and your viewers say – “Please stay. I’d like to learn some more about that”.
Watch the video at the top of this post for more information on that!
USE OUR TOOLS TO SHORTEN YOUR VIDEO MARKETING
The hardest part of getting in and out economically is knowing what to cut from your scripts.
So, we created a script timer for you and your business to use as you feel out the landscape of your next video. Our script timer takes your script, runs it through an algorithm, and presents you with an average words-to-time estimation for the speed you speak at (i.e., slow, medium, or fast). The best scripts will equal half to three-quarters the amount of time you expect your videos to run for.
So, when you convert your business’s words-to-time in preparation for a video marketing production, be sure to use our script timing tool!
